Battersea Power Station Soft Landscape Renovation

January 2025

Battersea Power Station was converted into a shopping, leisure and residential complex which opened in 2022. Having laid the original lawns with Tillers Arena Gold Shortcut prior to the new development being available to the public, Fineturf were delighted to return to the site in Central London in late January 2025 to conduct a full soft landscape renovation.

Following the conclusion of the ever-popular Winter Wonderland attraction, Fineturf commenced work in the third week of January. Together with the natural complexity that comes with operating on a large site, Fineturf also demonstrated the full care and caution required to be working in close proximity to the general public – with the attraction fully open throughout the duration of the two-week project.

The first stage was to strip off the existing turf surface, cleanly removing all of the extracted material from site. The existing rootzone layer was then lightly cultivated, re-graded and prepped for new turf with an application of Greentec 6-5-18+MgO+4Fe fine turf fertiliser. With time of the essence, the surface was laid with Tillers Arena Golf Turf.

Tillers Arena Gold blends the finest perennial dwarf ryegrass and fescue cultivars to produces a durable turf with an attractive fine leaved appearance which makes it an excellent choice for ornamental lawns.

With the turfed area swiftly back in use, the vibrant, pristine lawns provided the perfect backdrop for Battersea’s free light festival – showcasing eight light art installations from British and international artists.

The precision of execution and finesse of the final result has seen Fineturf appointed to return to the Grade II* listed Power Station next January.
