Forest Pines Golf Club Lake and Green Reconstruction
April 2016
The approach to the 9th hole at Forest Pines Golf Club was suffering from poor drainage. Furthermore, a portion of the green had been constructed with severe undulations; leading to restrictive pin positions. Having previously worked at Forest Pines the club approached Fineturf to rectify both issues as well as reconstructing the green side lake.
Turf was carefully stripped from the green which was then excavated down to the original formation removing the rootzone and gravel carpet. New v-shaped drainage trenches were cut, filled with pipe and back filled with gravel. A gravel carpet was laid over the entire area, new rootzone imported and shaped. Finally the greenstaff replaced the original turf. During this phase of the project the green surrounds were also reshaped.
The turf was removed from the wet area of the approach. The excavated rootzone from the green and additional topsoil were blended and used to raise the level of the approach and sand ameliorated into the blend. The greens staff completed this by gravel banding the area and laying washed turf.
The existing lake was drained and liner removed. The lake banks were reshaped and new drainage installed. Following this sand lining was applied and then a plastic liner. Finally the edges were topsoiled and turfed.
