Grimsthorpe Castle Drainage Installation
June 2017
Grimsthorpe Castle in Lincolnshire is surrounded by gardens on 3 sides that have been full of fresh planting ideas and displays throughout their 400 year history. We were asked to install drainage in two areas of the castle grounds.
Ornamental tree growth was being restricted by the heavy wet soil on Holly Vue Vista. We installed two main drains, one either side of the walkway, at 800mm deep. 100mm pipe was laid and the trenches backfilled with 6mm gravel and 150mm of 70/30 rootzone. The drains were connected to an existing outfall. A second area planted with Quince trees also required drainage to encourage their development.
The trenches were excavated with a Mastenbroek and our operatives successfully completed the project while carefully manoeuvring this large machine throughout the gardens.
