Holbrook Bowls Club Green Relocation
September 2013
Holbrook Bowls Club in Horsham, West Sussex has recently relocated their facilities. The project was initiated following plans to improve Horsham town centre and an accompanying proposal for a new Waitrose store. As part of the project the club received a new bowling green, pavilion, car park and entrance. Fineturf, with extensive experience in bowling green relocations, were asked by lead contractor Kestrel to construct the new green.
The existing surface was removed and a new formation excavated. Drainage trenches were cut into the profile and filled with 100mm pipe for the main and 80mm pipe for the lateral drains. The trenches were backfilled with 4-10mm drainage gravel.
A 2-6mm gravel carpet was installed at a depth of 100mm and laser graded. A 225mm layer of rootzone was spread and also laser graded to complete the green profile. Following this, the green was hand raked, pre seed fertiliser applied and bowling green seed sown.
County concrete channels were installed and fitted with rubber ditch lining and Astroturf. A slabbed perimeter was laid along with a large patio area for viewing.
