Lords Cricket Ground Main Square Renovations
October 2024
Lord’s Main Square, consisting of 14 wickets, underwent comprehensive renovations in 2025 to ensure optimal playing conditions. The process began with a Koro Field-Topmaker (1.5m wide), used to lightly fraize mow the surface in three directions. This removed all vegetation, thatch, and slime, exposing a clean loam base.
Following this, the pitch was Koro Deep Scarified in three directions to a depth of 5–6mm, ensuring thorough preparation. A Trilo S4 vacuum collector was then used to remove any remaining debris, leaving the surface clean and ready for the next stage.
To restore the grass, a Gandy Drop Spreader was used to sow a 100% Rye Grass mix from DLF at a rate of 70g/m². Loam was applied using our smallest Massey Ferguson tractor paired with a Sisis Powerspred, and the surface was lute- and dragmatted in multiple directions to perfect the levels.
We then applied Headland Greentech 6.5.18 pre-seeder fertiliser, followed by final handwork. The renovated surface was covered with growth sheets to encourage germination, ensuring the Main Square is prepared for a season of exceptional cricket.
