Manchester United Football Club Carrington Training Ground Pitch End of Season Renovation Works

Manchester United’s world-class training ground and academy headquarters are close to Carrington village and occupy a 108-acre site that has seen significant investment in facilities in recent years. There are 14 football pitches of varying sizes including 12 grass pitches, one AstroTurf all-weather pitch, an indoor artificial pitch and a special goalkeeper training area.

To restore and improve training pitch surfaces, renovations were carried out by Fineturf in 2022. These included the Under 23’s Desso GrassMaster pitch, the 1st Team Desso pitch, Under 18’s Desso match pitch and Under 13’s, Under 12’s and Under 11’s pitches. The existing surface was removed by two passes with the Koro field top maker running a UniRake between passes, which we then seeded in three directions using dimple seeders. Sports sand was supplied and then spread, a John Deere Aerocore fitted with 12mm solid tines were used, and the further seed was sown in three directions using a Dimpleseeder. Profile® was supplied and spread (fine-turf.co.uk/profile-soil-amendment). Deep tine aeration was then conducted and drag matted in four directions.
