Market Rasen Racecourse Drainage Installation
October 2013
Market Rasen Racecourse in Lincolnshire, part of Jockey Club Racecourses, operates 14 racing venues across the country. Fineturf have been contracted for maintenance and construction works at a number of these tracks.
This recent project at Market Rasen involved the installation of approximately 3000 linear metres of drainage to problematic areas of the track. The drainage systems included main drains, lateral drains, sand slits and catch drains.
All drains were excavated using a Shelton Trencher but to different specifications. The main drain was 500mm deep x 125mm wide, the laterals were 450mm x 100mm and the catch drains 450mm x 100mm. Perforated drainage pipe was laid in all trenches which were then backfilled with 4-10mm gravel to within 150mm of the surface and 70/30 rootzone to track level. The sand slits were excavated at 300mm x 50mm and backfilled with 200mm of gravel and 100mm of sports sand.
Finally, all pipe work was connected and the trenches lines reseeded with Limagrain MM60.
