Market Rasen Racecourse Jump Levelling
July 2015
In July Fineturf completed a sand slitting and jump levelling project at Market Rasen racecourse.
The back straight had 8000lm of sand slits installed at 1m centres. Each trench was excavated 300mm deep and backfilled with 200mm of gravel and 100mm of rootzone. The slit lines were seeded with Limagrain MM60.
Four of the course jumps also required releveling. Due to the impact of horses taking off and landing these areas are regularly top dressed. During a season this topdressing results in excess material which needs to be levelled and married back into the surrounding track level.
The jumps were moved and the areas marked out. The existing turf was loosened with a big roll harvester and then stripped with an excavator. The existing, surplus soil was broken up and mixed using a toothed bucket fitted to one of our Volvo excavators. The soil was then graded to achieve the correct level with the surrounding track. Final ground preparation was completed and a 6:5:18 fertiliser applied. The jumps were turfed with Tillers Arena Sport twin big roll.
