Ormiston Victory Academy Sports Pitch Construction
May 2014
This spring we continued our strong relationship with Balfour Beatty when we constructed a new 8,000m2 sports pitch at Ormiston Victory Academy in Norwich. With the Academy construction underway the new sports facilities’ were to be built on the site of the old school building.
Our first task was to excavate the old building foundations. Once removed we bulldozed and laser graded all remaining material, approximately 4,000m3, resulting in a base on which to commence the pitch construction.
The pitch formation consisted of 250mm of topsoil, which was spread and laser graded and into which 50mm of sports sand was ameliorated down to a depth of 150mm. Main drainage, 5m lateral drainage and 1m sand slits were all installed during the construction.
Finally, the final surface was prepared ready for MM60 sports seed, which was applied at 60gm2, and 14:6:8 fertiliser applied at 35gm2.
