Radley College Cricket Square Renovation

August 2024

With their world-class facilities, Radley College is renowned for sporting excellence and sportsmanship. In particular, the cricket facilities are in high demand with 19 teams and a programme which runs across all three terms. At the conclusion of this in the summer of 2024, Fineturf were asked to carry out the end of season renovations of the cricket square.

Work began in the first week of September to remove all the vegetation, thatch and slime off the square using a 1.5m Koro equipped with universal rotor. Any debris was vacuumed off, before three passes of a Graden were made in different directions and at varying depths and, again, debris collected.

With the surface prepared, operatives then seeded with the MM50 mixture – ideal for the creation of hard-wearing cricket squares – at a rate of 35g/m2. 14 tonnes of Ongar loam was then applied, before the remaining 35g/m2 of MM50 was sown.

The square was then fed with an application Greentec 6-5-18 which was luted and dragmatted into the profile. After just three days, the work was complete and the grow-in commenced.

Fineturf were delighted to conduct the project, returning to the square which they originally constructed almost 20 years ago. It is testament to the quality and trust in Fineturf’s professionalism and output that the recent renovation is the latest in a long list of works conducted over the last two decades – all completed on specification, on time and on budget.
