The Belfry 18th Complex Construction
March 2020
In December 2019 we commenced work on the construction of a new 18th hole complex on The PGA National Course at the Belfry. The project included a new lake, faced with French Oak sleepers, a new green, bunkers and approach.
The lake was excavated and a lake liner installed. The face of the lake was constructed from French Oak sleepers. The surrounds were topsoiled and turfed. An Otterbine sprinkler was also installed.
The existing topsoil was stripped and stockpiled for reuse later in the project. The new green and was shaped along with new bunkers. Drainage trenches were cut into the green formation, piped and backfilled. The green was constructed from a laser levelled 100mm gravel carpet and a 300mm layer of rootzone. The surrounds were shaped from the previously stockpiled topsoil. The green was turfed with Poa Bent Greens Turf, to match the swards on the existing 17 greens. New irrigation pipework and sprinklers were connected.
