The Hurlingham Club Bowling Green Resurfacing

August 2024

Fineturf were delighted to be appointed by The Hurlingham Club to conduct the resurfacing of their bowling green. Since the Club opened in 1869, it has offered some of the finest sports and social facilities to its members and this summer was deemed the perfect time to add some extra finesse to its lawn bowls surface.

Operatives arrived on site immediately after the August bank holiday and began by stripping off the existing greens surface, ensuring that all vegetation and organic matter was removed down to a layer of clean rootzone. All of the arisings were then collected and cleanly removed from the site and transported back to Fineturf HQ for green waste recycling.

The cleaned surface was then cultivated and laser graded, before 40 tonnes of quality sports sand was applied, levelled and ameliorated into the top 75mm of the profile. The surface was then laser graded a second time, for pinpoint accuracy, and a nutritional programme was applied. This consisted of Greentec 6-5-18, Multigreen 18-3-15 and ICL Pearl.

The final stage was the apply the seed for the new green. For this, MM10 was selected and sown at a rate of 70g/m2.

Kind weather and the expertise of the Fineturf operatives saw the project completed in just three days, and the new bowling green up and in operation just a matter of weeks later.
