Wates Construction Playing Field Construction

In September we constructed a 5000m2 sports pitch for the new Poplar Farm Primary School in Grantham.

We supplied, spread and laser graded a layer of topsoil to a uniform depth of 175mm. We installed a main drain and silt trap fitted with a sump. Secondary drainage was installed at 4m centres and backfilled with 2/6mm washed gravel and 175mm of sport sand. A custom built trench compaction wheel consolidated the sand.

A 25mm sand layer was spread across the site and ameliorated into the surface which was lightly cultivated. A pre turf fertiliser was applied at 50g/m2 and Limagrain MM60 sports seed sown at 50g/m2.
